Classes -- Inborn Caster

Inborn Casters
The pervading aura of magic on Ere has resulted in a special breed of beings for whom magic is not a craft; it is a power from within. Where wizards learn from their books, and sorcerers force magic to do their bidding, Inborn casters call their abilities from a secret well deep in their soul. The powers used by an Inborn are less spells and more super human ability.

Adventures: Inborn casters adventure because they can. Their innate abilities make them perfectly suited to the lifestyle and the fact that repeated use of their powers unlocks even greater power is an attractive bonus.

Characteristics: The inborn caster's greatest power lies in her spell like abilities. She needs neither component, nor gestures to call them, at the cost of not being able to use spell completion items, or counterspelling. Eventually, however, her own confidence in her abilities, coupled with a natural resistance to magic overcome her obvious frailties and forges her into a staunch adventurer.

Religion: Believing their powers to be a gift of nature, many Inborn casters revere Sylph or Pandemos. Others feel their powers exist to carry out a purpose and turn to Dey or Denaii to give them a purpose.

Background: Depending on the place they were born, Inborn casters are either considered to be godly gifts or freakish outcasts. Tribal cultures are especially appreciative to Inborns with powers that can provide for or strengthen the community, while more urbanized areas fear and despise Inborns with destructive powers.

Races: Inborns come from all races, but are most common among humans and half elves that live in magic rich areas. Dwarves and Minotaurs who are less likely to use magic have fewer Inborn offspring.

Other Classes: Inborn can get on well with almost all other classes, though more diverse classes, such as wizards and clerics may scoff at the Inborn's limited repertoire.

The Inborn Caster
Inborn Casters have the following games statistics.

Abilities: An Inborn depends on Charisma to cast use her spell like abilities. She must have a Charisma of spell level +10 in order to use that spell.

CLASS FEATURES
Inborn Casters have the following Class Features:

Weapons and Armor Proficiency: Inborn are proficient with all simple weapons and no armor or shields.

Inborn Power (Sp): The Inborn gains a number of spell like abilities. An inborn uses spells as spell like abilities, which are drawn from the Inborn Caster spell list. He can use any spell like ability he knows without preparing it ahead of time, the way a wizard or a cleric must.

To use a spell, an inborn must have a Charisma score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against an inborn’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the sorcerer’s Charisma modifier.

An inborn is limited in his casting by how many spell points he has per day. The cost in spell points to use his spell like abilities is given in the Magic Section in the Table: Spell Point Costs. His base daily spell point allotment is given on Table: The Inborn Caster. In addition, he receives bonus uses per day if he has a high Charisma score based on the Table: Bonus Spell Points.

An inborn’s selection of spells is extremely limited. An inborn begins play knowing four 0-level spells and two 1st-level spells of your choice. At each new inborn level, he gains one or more new spells, as indicated on Table: Inborn Spells Known. (Unlike uses per day, the number of spells an inborn knows is not affected by his Charisma score; the numbers on Table: Inborn Spells Known are fixed.) These new spells can be common spells chosen from the inborn spell list, or they can be unusual spells that the intuitive has gained some understanding of by self reflection which uncovers a new power.

Unlike a wizard or a cleric, an inborn need not prepare his spells in advance. He can use any spell he knows at any time, assuming he has not yet used up her uses per day for that spell level. She does not have to decide ahead of time which spells he’ll use.

A spell-like ability has no verbal, somatic, or material component, nor does it require a focus or have an XP cost. The user activates it mentally. Armor never affects a spell-like ability’s use, even if the ability resembles an arcane spell with a somatic component. Spell-like abilities gained via the Inborn Power class ability cannot be modified by meta-magic feats such as Empower or Extend, though they can be affected by magic items that mimic these feats.

Discarnate Legacy (Ex): Inborn Casters are treated as if they had the discarnate subtype for the purposes of spells, feats and other effects that effect creatures with the Discarnate subtype.

Detect magic (Sp): At 2nd Level, the Inborn is sensitive to all forms of magic. 1/day + Cha modifier, he may use detect magic as a spell-like ability as an Inborn of his level.

Scion of Magic (Su): At 4th level, the Inborn’s connection to magic becomes such that he is actually resistant to most magic. He gains Spell Resistance equal to his Inborn level + 10 for a number of rounds equal to his Charisma modifier. This ability is usable once per day at 4th level and an additional time per day every four levels thereafter.

Grace of Being (Ex): At 5th level, the personality of an inborn becomes truly powerful. He may add his Cha modifier to all saves.

Ascendant (Ex): At level 20, the Inborn’s true power manifests. He gains all features of the Discarnate subtype.
